Since there was soo much contradiction and opinions in the 'Silver Ravenwolf' thread - and wow, I learnt a lot lol - things i never knew that were out there!
So I thought maybe theres stuff that I dont know aobut Scott Cunningham -possibly one of the most popular authors (from my view) in the subject of wicca/witchcraft - so surely, many opinions. lol i KNOW about THE author, but what do you guys think about him?
Any particular likes/dislikes? Fave books? Popular opinions? Anything that pops to your head aobut him - just post!
Well cant wait to see what everyone else thinks!
My deepest respects, I hope the goddess is with you Cunningham, in the summerland.

I do like Cunningham. I read his books once I had already been studying a long time though so they didn't teach me alot I didn't know already. For a beginner I would suggest one of his books before I would suggest SilverRavenWolf's. He writes well and informatively without "dumbing it down". If people haven't read his works yet I would get to the library!

lol this i agree on - get to the library! Or better yet - buy one of your own - definitely a keeper. Well i like to keep all my books lol so hmm...
i actually read his books as a beginner and they helped a lot too! I think his Guide for A Solitary Pracitiotioner was my third or fourth book. Loved it.
What I especially LOVE and keep going back to read are his RITUALS - esp for sabbats. (lol some of you may have heard me mention this before. i really marvel at his rituals!) theyre really meaningful and i often base my rituals with his ideas when i cant come up with anything on my own. (i did this a lot when i first began wicca) It really helps!

Yea I really like his works. Especially how he doesn't bombard all his books with spells but does give great ritual ideas, I usually use those as an outline for mine.

Definitely!!! I'm not a huge fan of books bombarded with spells and spells and spells either. I mean I'll skim over them - but really, I *probably* will never use them. (lol i know Silver Ravenwolf has a lotta Spells in some of her books too - and very few rituals! )

Yea. In his one book Living Wicca I really REALLY liked the part on Prayer. IDk.. something about it was just really cool... like how he said that we don't have to raise our eyes to the sky to speak to our deity for we just have to look within ourselves to our divine spark... all taht really hit home with me. lol maybe just because i used to follow christianity but.... i loved that chapter lol. But then near the end I think there was something that didn't quite sit right with me but I can't place my finger on it so whatever. lol.

Scott Cunningham was the first author I was drawn to when i started on the path(only since october, so i am a real newbie) After reading an extensive amount of info, many authors, many online site informational texts, and the fact that I also new instantly i was to be a solitary and eclectic, i feel the God and Goddess sent showed me the way to Cunninghams ideas on Wiccan practice- He makes things very clear to solitaries, takes away the anxiety that you might do rituals or magick workings wrong, and leaves everything so open, and personal to you as a new seeker. His info on herbals, incense and oils is great, and I am so looking forward to using these in my magicks- He also makes it easy for a beginner to understand and set up sacred space, altar, etc. I am not going to follow his way word for word, but his info will be a strong foundation for my travel along the Path

Mardiah -- Scott Cunningham was one of the first authors' books that I read about when I was starting my path as well. And you're right. He does make things very clear to the solitary wiccan. He helped me a great deal as well. And yes, he also does leave many things open to the reader so that the way they walk their path is sacred, personal, special and different to them as well. It sounds like you're on the right direction! Good luck with your path!

Scott Cunningham was probably the second author that really helped when I was starting out. (The first being Gerwina Dunwich).
I do like how his books aren't loaded with spell after spell and how he encouraged to do what you feel is right, that his words aren't set in stone.

Sometimes I just skip all the spell parts of a book, sure they are fun to read though! But I usually don't perform them...& if I were to perform a spell, I thik I'd rather write my own (those could be good guidelines though I guess...) And definitely...love how he emphasizes that what he writes isnt to be followed slave-ishly, but find your own way of doing things instead....gotta love that!
