I was just looking at my books last night (wait...the night before!) and I came across Silver Ravenwolf's To Ride A Silver Broomstick. Havent touched that book in a long time, almost forgot about it! but not quite. I glanced through it and saw all those lessons taht you were suppose to do! lol so I looked around my room for those sheets of loose papers taht i remember doing them on...found most of them. Interesting to look back. I must admit, I did not do all of them! I was wondering, just curious, when you read that book (or have you read it yet?), did you ever do the lessons?

I've always heard her books had a bad rep.? What's your opinion on that? (though I'm sure you disagree lol.) and do they have a lot of spells in them? because personally I make up my own spells and don't want a book crowded with spells I prefer in depth info and maybe some rituals for sabbats or esbats.

Her books do have a bad rep as being a little too "fluffy". They are also considered to be teaching spells without the background training needed to understand them. I have read all her books but find them a little too basic and written for a younger audience.

lol are you seroius? Some people actually say that her books are too 'fluffy'? Wow..
They are basic - which is good for beginners. They helped me out A LOT when i was first starting out. Well its good taht theyre basic - cuz you gotta start somewhere right?!
But I have to admit, I do agree - to some amount. (about them being way too basic. Theres a lot of books that i woudl go back and read over and over again and do the things over and over again. But i dont think right now Id go back and do most of the stuff. But still - they are VERY good books! I really like the way she writes!) Even her more 'advanced' books arent as advanced as other books. And possibly, they were written for a younger audience. when I started wicca, i was pretty young (well 12 - thats comparatively young to some others) so that would explain why I was such a fan of her books. (and still is - theyve left a good impression of everything in my mind!)

Yes I have heard that her books are very fluffy. It was the first thing I ever heard about her so it kinda left me with a bad impression lolz. Someone even gave me this webpage about why shes fluffy or something. Check it out if you want. www.fortunecity.com/roswell/vanthal/608/id57.htm

Wow lol I think thats terrible! I mean here a lady is trying to educate those who want to walk the path of wicca the best way she can (and of course make a living and support her family too) and people are badmouthing her!? Thats so harsh! (Although that article might have a few tiny tiny points that I might just agree with but still! I mean why woudl soemone create a web page to bad mouth an author and point out their 'problems'?!) Wow thats relaly opened up my eyes! lol boy am i glad i never saw THAT article before I bought her books, or else i might not have known better!

Thank you for that link, it was a very good read and says some of the things I thought myself upon reading her books. Even when I was younger I didn't like being treatde as "less intelligent" than adult Wiccans so I never really liked books that wrote specifically for younger audiences.

I think it really depends how you look at it. I dont think she treats you as 'less intelligent'. I think she just starts from the basics to try and ensure that you know whats necessary. Thats what makes her books so great for beginners. I ALWAYS recommend her books (along with some others) for people who ask me for a reading list if theyre just starting out. And most of them are pretty happy with it. I guess it really is a matter of opinion! well isnt everything!

yeah I just opened up one of her books once and there were some spells that just seemed a little.. well don't know how to put this into words but... just seemed like you should be using your time for better things lol. But hey what's important to me is differnt for others. But hey not every books all good or all bad... so that link amy posted is good because it keeps you cautious from just absorbing everything you read... but just remember to believe what you believe too! That's all i got.

I have read most of Silver's books. Yes, I'll admit they are basic, but for starters or people who like to review every no and then, there pretty good. I don't know about you, but i love her sense of humor....( maybe that's why some don't like her....she's the only WitchCraft writer that uses mostly humor) I thought, anyway, that her books aren't boring like some others....she doesn't just go 'ok that's how you do it' and give you a five chapter discription of how to reach your goal. She does, however, get just enought info out to you....if you choose to go in depth you can do that on your own. I personally love her new Solitary Witch BOS....now that's a book with everything in it, but then again it's aimed at an older, more mature audience. well, that's all i have to say! Rose

Rose! I totally agree! I love her sense of humour too and her liveliness in her writing! Its not boring...its fun! It makes reading fun! And she also likes giving tons of real life examples, which is good cuz she lets u kinda know what to expect...sort of. And its nice to see what happens to other people too...

her books are to me not appropreite. Silver Ravenwolf seen what wicca was becoming and decided to write books on those who would buy them. Just like a company makes a product they want the most money and productivety. She seen that most people who where looking into Wicca where teenagers, so to help more learn she based her books towards teenagers. From those who I teach and others that are teenagers I have heard that she has helped them, but for me being over that teenage slump I just cant get into her books not that there isnt some good info in the books. The werid thing is that I have over 200 books on Wicca ect and only 2 are by silver
