Did you hear about that? (im sure most of you did...headlines in newspaper, everyones talking about it, its on almost every channel)
The tsunami that hit many parts of asia - largely affecting sri lanka, india, indonesia, thailand and many other countries in asia. This is definitely one of the biggest disasters of the year and will go down in history. Currently, over 30,000 people (omygosh!) have been found dead...and people are estimating that at least 60,000 peiople died in the eleven countries that the tsunami hit. There was almost nothing those people couldve done
Details can be found at this site: www.cnn.com/
What can we (us, friends, family, etc) do about it? See this link: www.google.com/tsunami_relief.html
And at the very least... May we all pray for those who have lost their lives.. and also those who are suffering right now...
I saw the news reports that night on tv...and it was horrible. There were dead bodies lying all around. I feel so fortunate where I am. And I feel so terrible for those who lived there. So let us do all we can. And pray for those who have lost.

The tragedy is horrible, I do hope we'll all offer our prayers if we cannot give something more mundane like pants or money. ~..likes pants~ :-D The latest count I've seen as of an hour ago was over 55,000 found dead. The tsunamis were moving 500mph and originated in the Indian ocean, a place that has no warning system in place since tsunamis do not typically occur there, they usually come from the Pacific Ocean, more specifically, the Ring of Fire.
On a note of scientific interest, however, it hit a 9.0 on the Richter scale (rather high if I do say so myself), and the Earth literally wobbled on its axis. Islands in the area shifted as much as 20 meters--changing the face of our planet.
We could extrapolate spiritual meaning from all of this, but I think the most important thing we can do now is, at the very least, to offer our support to those suffering. Although I daresay there is political blood boiling, as the U.S. was attacked for not sending as much aid as we "should" have.
What do you guys think about this political aspect?

Ohmygosh...already 55,000 confirmed dead? its soo sad.
I heard it hit 8.9 on the Richter scale...now it really makes me wonder if this would've caused more damage if it was on land (like an earthquake instead of tsunami)...hmm...what do you think? I mean at least here some people got more of a chance to escape...than in an earthquake where you get aobut 30 secs of warning. But than, this affects 11 countries where as an earthquake probably would not. Now im just rambling on.
I'm not really a politics-person but...I did hear some comments about the US and this issue. (like how they arent making a big enough deal of this - but if it had happened to them it wouldve been like the world fell apart big issue type of thing...and just stuff like that. Which is true - and typical - I mean for ex...the iraq issues...thousands of iraq people die and they dont make a big fuss about it, but if one US soldier dies, its on the headlines and all. Sorry - dont mean to jump on any of you americans! Frankly, I dont really care much for politics) But I really dont think that this is what the world should be focusing on right now....NOT whether the US (or any other country) is offering enough help or not...but instead contributing and trying to assist those in need...instead of jumping on other countries.
This issue and all the people who are suffering from it, as well as those who have lost their lives to it - has been in my prayers all of yesterday and today. It really is a tragedy. And again, it really makes me feel fortunate and makes me count my blessings (haha remeber that thread...)

Now it is at least 160! It will probably reach 200 soon! This is terrible...one of the worst things that has happened in a long time... . I don't think the US should be attacked for not sending more aid...we could have sent more but I think we are a VERY generous country!

200k? Oh no...thats terrible! We (our family) tried to donate last night....but the phone lines were busy...and we tried for HOURS..MANY times.... although we did not get to donate, its good to know how generous people are and that they are willing to help those in need. We will try later again. May we all pray for them.
